Try using the drawing tools in word rather than inserting ready made shapes? What sort of shape do you want? If you know I'll make one up for you

hmmm, it's really hard - I dunno what shape I want...something not too 'shapey' haha! makes no sense, but I want it to be some sort of design sort of thing....

I've been playing about with it a bit again, have a look and see what you think now, better do you think?

Yeah, that's lovely! And yes, I know what you mean about it not being too shapey... suggestion for you... if you are struggling with words drawing tools try working with a slide in powerpoint instead.. you get slightly more editing options there.

Set the slide size as the dimensions of your page and then you can move things about a lot easier!

I absolutely love this idea as it will be so much more personal and lovely to sit and read through them all.

Silly question time though (apologies in advance!!)....I assume you're going to print these out on card but then what are you going to put them into - some sort of folder/binder?? Not sure where to source something nice for the completed pages to go into as a keepsake??

Yeah, I need to sort out what I am going to do about that actually. I was hoping that I might be able to find someone who could make a book with them for me!

I have also heard of people buying a guestbook and sticking the printed sheets into the book. But the problem I have (I'm a bit weird) I HATE books with empty pages! I hate that with photo albums and stuff - drives me nuts! I want all my pages to be complete :-)

Worst case, I buy a nice custom sized box and store the sheets in there!

I've just emailed out some enquiries about bookbinding so I will let you know how I get on :-)

I loved the idea of making my own guest book pages but while i was on the internet looking for inspiration on how to sort out the layout of the pages i stumbled apon an idea i love even better . Its making a "bowl of wishes" All you need is a glass bowl and in my case i am using a glass fish bowl similar to the ones i have for my table centrepieces, placing small blank card beside the bowl and i am asking all my guests to write a little note or wish for us and place it in the bowl, we will then keep all the little wishes in a keepsake box and open them on our first wedding anniversary.

Try the Universities if you are looking for binding to be done.. they usually have somewhere in house that is a lot cheaper than else where

I just found a graphics design company who will make me up a proper sheet for 50 + VAT, all I would have to do was print them. Can't decide if I should just go for it seen as I can't get it too look right in word/powerpoint.....

    Hey,

I am going to have the pages bound into a book after the wedding.

Not sure yet how I am going to lay them out on the day - will get something sorted though!

Loads of bookbinders about just google search. Think prices start from around 35 ish?

this is such a good idea, i've been thinking of alternatives to a guest book as in my family in the past, they have been fairly blank with just "congrats" and "you looked so lovely" in them, this is such a good way of actually getting people to write funny, personal comments, without them being the same old stuff

going to steal this too, it'll be a 2011 trend in SWD lol

    Thumbs up Update

    Hi There,

Just an update on where I am with my now not-so DIY guest book pages!

After many, many hours of trying in vain to make the guest book pages in word/powerpoint/paint myself I came to the conclusion that it was not possible! I could get the pages to look alright, but just not quite as good as I had in mind (you really need a specialist art program I think).

I ended up asking Christine from Perfect Match Designs (who is a member on this forum: http://www.perfectmatchdesigns.co.uk/) to make up a page for me, and it has turned out so well, my guest book pages are now looking fab, fab, fabby! Even if I do say so myself! She was so helpful, and very patient when I (or should I say my h2b) changed my/his mind about what it was we were looking for!! (of course he had no opinion on the guest book page design until the very last minute!) Christine was always really quick to reply to my emails, and very reasonably priced.

All in all great service I would definitely recommend Christine if anyone is looking for some help with their personalised guest book!

The file is now too big to attach properly! So I took a screen shot, saved it in paint & then sent it to a zip file. Who knows if this will work!!!

    xx

P.S. to have the pages bound I was told to leave a 25mm margin on the left hand side, and a 5mm margin on all other sides - just incase anyone is thinking about this!

Amazing and gorgeous! Well done Christine - she has kept it quite similar to how you both origionally had it which is good and shows she's truely helpful and listens to what you want.

I have absolutely no enthusiam for wedding planning just now! But this has inspired me (yet again!). Can I ask you how you are planning on binding your pages together? I did a bit on book binding when I was studying (textiles) but none of the techniques I was taut are 'special' enough.

No idea! I contacted a bookbinder and was just going to take the pages in there and get them made into a book? I haven't seen any examples because I haven't been into any of the bookbinders shops? I thought it would just look like a regular album?

lol ok, I never even thought about book binders! Have they gotten back to you about a price? It sounds like it might be expensive when done by professional book binders. Might be pleasantly surprised though, and all I could do is ask
