    Default Post Wedding Report 19/09/15

    Hi everyone

Now that our day is over I thought I’d do a wee post wedding report. We had the most amazing day ever. It’s so true what everyone says – it just absolutely flies in. In the morning when we were getting ready I was wishing the time away as I was so ready to get married but afterwards it was a blur. I’m so jealous of everyone who still has their day to come – soak up every moment! My other big tip would be to make sure you have time to relax beforehand. We were still finishing our favours and table names the day before the wedding.

There were loads of us staying at the venue the night before so we had a lovely dinner and drinks – it gave me a chance to meet some of Murray’s family who I’d never met before. I was staying in the bridal suite myself the night before so it was fab to have the four poster bed all to myself and gave me a chance to do my own thing and relax a little. Was really surprised by how good a sleep I got.

Venue: We got married in the Musicians Room in New Lanark followed by meal and reception in one of the suites in the hotel. I really couldn’t fault them at all. They accommodated all our requests in the run up, were happy to answer my endless emails (!) and made sure the day ran smoothly. I hadn’t met the girl who was running our day as our co-ordinator was on leave but she came to the room when I was getting ready and introduced herself and then came up when I was ready and escorted me and my bridal party over from the hotel to the ceremony room. She made sure me and my hubby were where we were meant to be throughout the day but without being intrusive in any way. I haven’t yet come across any other New Lanark brides but I’m sure they must be out there as there was always a wedding on when we visited and there was one on the day after ours. If you are on the forum believe me you will have an amazing day there! Our meal was also fantastic and everything ran on time – in spite of me being 15 minutes late!

Celebrant: We had Julie Reid from the Caledonian Humanist Society. Again we thought she was fab. We met up with her once before the ceremony to sort everything out and she performed the ceremony we’d written just as we liked. There were a lot of people in tears apparently - even my now mother in law who wasn’t sure at all about us having a humanist ceremony. It was just so personal.

Hair and make up: I had LA Hair and Make Up for myself and my two bridesmaids. Again I cannot rate Laura highly enough. She was so accommodating and did all our hair and make up exactly as we’d asked. I also thought she was very reasonably priced for how good she is. She is a lovely lass and really helped relax us all in the morning when we were all getting ready. I felt a million dollars and I know my bridesmaids did as well.

Dress: I got my dress from Gwenne’s in Edinburgh and have mentioned countless times on this forum how much I love the shop and Gwenne. I cannot recommend her highly enough from the first visit to the last she did everything to make sure I felt a million dollars and I just loved my dress so so much – it made me feel absolutely beautiful.

Chair covers and sashes: We chose Azure as they were a recommended supplier from the venue. The chair covers and sashes in the reception room looked great exactly as I had pictured. We had also asked for sashes in our ceremony room but for some reason they weren’t there. I’m not sure what happened to them as we have had no communication to explain why. It’s just a minor thing in the grand scheme of things though.

Harpist: We booked Margaret Knight after seeing her at the wedding show at the Corn Exchange. It wasn’t something I had really considered having but we both loved her and her range of music was fab. She played me down the aisle and then back up with my new hubby and also played at our drinks reception. During the signing of the register she played some movie music and although I knew she was playing it, the music for Up just about had me in tears too.

Band: We booked a local band called the Receivers and they were fantastic. They don’t have much of an online presence but we communicated by phone and went to see them rehearse before we booked. They kept the dance floor full all night and even got my and hubby up for a second solo dance after the buffet which we weren’t expected but it was lovely.

Photographer: Our photographer was Catching the Moments and Lukas was great throughout – communicated well with us in the run up and was very unobtrusive during the day itself. Looking forward to seeing the photos.

Cake: My hubby wanted to make our wedding cake but as he left it too late to practice we decided to plump for a good old M&S cake. It was a beautiful white one with lace detail. I didn’t actually get to try any on the day which was gutting because I especially asked for 1 chocolate tier as that’s my favourite type of cake. We tried some of the leftovers the next day though and it was delish – although all the chocolate had already gone

Favours and table names – we made both our own favours and our own table names. The favours were homemade marmalades and jams (made by my hubby and decorated by us both). They went down a storm. We named our tables after our favourite authors and made the table names to look like penguin book covers. We were really pleased with them.

Flowers: We chose Allison’s Flowers initially as she was the recommended supplier for the venue and after we’d had a meeting we knew we’d made the right choice. I had purples and ivories in my bouquet and they were stunning – I loved them. Her top table flowers and centre-pieces were also beautiful. My mother in law got a thank you bouquet as well (although we forgot to present them to her during the speeches oops!) and she has commented on how well they are still lasting and how lovely they were. I had initially thought about getting silk flowers instead so I could keep them but decided on real as I wanted to take them down to put on my mum’s grave along with the top table flowers so she could be part of the day. We did that the day after just my hubby and me.

After the big day we had a week away in Belgium for our honeymoon. We’re not sun worshippers and didn’t have a lot of time off or money to spend so we thought it would be ideal. Spend a few days in Brussels and then went up to Bruges on the train and we just had a fab time trying beers and wandering around. Bruges is especially beautiful!

Back to work now (and back to normal L) but we’ve still got presents to open and our photos to get back so looking forward to that. I’m enjoying not having a wedding to plan but I don’t think it will be long before I’m looking for another project!

Have attached a few photos. Good luck with planning everyone!

    Julie

Wow... your pictures look stunning. The second really showcases your flowers quite beautifully and you are right, they are lovely.

I can't believe that your cake is from marks and spencers. It looks like it is a professionally done cake, what I mean by that is I would have expected it to have cost Ł100s (I don't mean it in a bad way, please don't take offence).

Your dress looks amazing as well. I really like the top half and it is giving me a bit of inspiration for my dress. I am far too self-conscious to go for a strapless dress (scared it falls down even though I know there is heaps of corsetting and everything). It looks beautiful on you and you look so happy and comfortable in it (based on your photographs).

Congratulations on your wedding and thank you for sharing.

Aww thanks Stewby! I would have been self-conscious in strapless too. I actually wanted sleeves to cover the tops of my arms but fell in love with that dress.

Don't worry I'm not offended. The cake was something that wasn't high on our priority list and they can be so expensive when made by a professional. I was really impressed when I saw it on the day and I heard it was delicious. Plus its really a blank canvas you could do anything with.

Absolutely beautiful. Congratulations and well done!

We're having an M&S cake too, decided that right from the start. No surprises, just good quality and well-priced.

Aww thank you. I would deffo recommend M&S for cake. We just finished the last of our sponge tier last night and it still tasted OK. I didn't get any on the day :-( but heard from everyone that it was tasty.
