Sorry for the lack of an update yesterday. We're having a cake sale in work today so I spent most of yesterday afternoon and evening slaving away in the kitchen!

I hope to post a further update later today in between watching Easties, Great British Bake Off and Don't Tell The Bride!

The next instalment is overdue – apologies! I finished up today at work for two weeks annual leave so it’s been quite hectic trying to tie up a lot of loose ends!

Once the helicopter had landed Laura the wedding co-ordinator told me that the ceremony was outside. I was absolutely ecstatic! The whole time since we had left the house I had been convinced it was going to be just a little on the chilly side for our guests sitting outside. The sun was beaming and there was barely a cloud in the sky. We transferred to the Maserati. The boys had come down in it from Glasgow and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think the chauffer put the foot down just a little! As I was getting into the car I caught my hair and it pulled it out of place a little. Laura was on hand to calm me down. The car drove us round from the landing site to the front of the hotel. My bridesmaids and my mum followed behind in their car. We had a few photos taken at the front of the hotel and I suddenly realised I’d not put my wedding perfume on that morning. Thankfully my chief bridesmaid had it in her bag! Laura was on hand with some hairspray to sort my hair out too – what a star!

We went into the hotel foyer and some of the Ushers were waiting. It was lovely to see everyone in their kilts and my little page-boy was there too looking oh so cute!

We quickly lined up in the correct order. First up was one of the Ushers escorting my step-mum in, then another Usher escorted my mum in to her seat. Then it was the main party. My page-boy was too wee to walk in on his own so I decided to have his Dad, another of the Ushers, walk in with him holding his hand. I then had an Usher walk in with one of my bridesmaids on his arm and then another Usher walk in behind with my second bridesmaid. I cannot recall what the Piper was playing but I remember thinking “this is really it!” Next thing I knew it was time for my Dad and I to enter. The Piper started playing Highland Cathedral and the hairs on my arms and neck stood on end. I could not stop smiling. We exited through the patio doors at the rear of the hotel and out into the garden where the ceremony took place. Laura had suggested we pause at the top of the aisle runner so she could sort my dress and veil. I’m glad she did as it gave both my Dad and I time to take a breath and compose ourselves. We carried on walking down the aisle and I was just so happy it was finally happening and that all our friends and family were there. I really thought I would cry but I was too happy for that! I was glad when I got to the top of the aisle beside Fraser and even more happy when he turned and whispered how beautiful I looked.

Here is a picture of my bridesmaids and I just before the ceremony began.

    The Ceremony!

The ceremony was my absolute favourite part of the day. We had so much input into the whole ceremony and our celebrant Linda Britton was amazing. She had so many ideas that we were able to bounce around and we came up with a ceremony that was truly personal to us and really reflected us as a couple and our views on marriage and what was important about our relationship.

I should say at this point that our guests really appreciated and liked the fact that we chose to face them during the service as you'll see from some of the pictures. It's one thing I have really disliked about other wedding ceremonies is when the bride and groom have their back to you through the whole service. You don't see the way they look at each other or the smiles between them. We both felt that we should face our guests so they felt more of a part of the ceremony and I'm really glad we did.

We had a candle lighting ceremony at the start with my brother and Fraser’s sister lighting a candle for each of us – what a disaster! There was a bit of a breeze and despite having the candles in hurricane lamps they would barely light! I think after about 5 minutes of trying they eventually got them to light. Later in the ceremony Fraser and I were meant to take a flame from our candles and light a new one together – well when we went to do that we discovered that both candles had gone out – hopefully not a sign of bad things to come for our marriage! It was a shame it didn’t work properly but our guests had a chuckle and they knew what our intention was! Tip – if you want a ceremony outside, rethink plans you may have to have candles during your ceremony!

One of my other brothers gave a reading as did my uni friend Jennifer – both did a great job.

The vows were lovely – even if Fraser did fluff his lines a little! Also when it came to putting the ring on his finger, he presented his hand to me with the palm facing up – god knows why! It’s funny in the video you see me forcing his hand the right way round and getting that ring shoved on the finger pretty damn quick!

The only time I felt close to tears was when our celebrant mentioned our grandparents who had passed away – we were both sad that they were not their to share our special day. I managed to keep it together but did have a lump in my throat.

Before we knew it the ceremony was over and we were man and wife getting piped back down the aisle!

    Drinks Reception

We made use of the Maserati again after the ceremony by going for a drive for ten minutes. The chauffer had the champagne on ice and took us for a spin down towards Alloway. I really enjoyed spending that time with Fraser in the car chatting about our respective mornings and the excitement of the day so far. When we came back we had our photographs taken. George was really quick at taking the formal shots. We had arranged for glasses of prosecco and bottles of peroni to be made available to our guests and instead of canapés we had chosen ice-cream! It went down a treat with ou guests especially in the nice weather! I even managed to have one myself – I hid my ice cream behind my bouquet during some of the photographs!

Fraser and I munching on ice cream in between photos!
